    Covid-19 Virus

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has assured Nigerians that there is no cause for alarm as the Omicron sub-lineages that are partly responsible for the rise in Covid-19 cases and deaths in countries like China, United Kingdom, United States etc., have not been found in Nigeria yet.

This statement was contained in Wednesday’s update on Covid-19 genomic surveillance signed by NCDC Director General Dr Ifedayo Adetifa

According to the update, the Omicron sub-lineage which is responsible for the rise in cases in China is known as BF.7, while the Omicron sub-lineage responsible for the rise in Covid-19 cases in the United States and the United Kingdom is known as XBB.1.5.

Dr Adetifa said the B.5.2.1 sub-lineage has been found in Nigeria as far back as July 2022 and there is a possibility that some other strains are also present.
