Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo says the country needs more rebels who would expose the truth to authority regardless of whose ox is shot in the face.
He claimed that this was one of the most critical periods in Nigeria’s rehabilitation.
Obasanjo spoke on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, at the launch of Chief Tayo Sowunmi‘s book, “Footprints Of A Rebel,” which was written by the Babanla Adinni of Egbaland.
The book, which was evaluated by Hafsat Abiola Costello, creator of the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy, was released as part of veteran activist and elder statesman Sowunmi’s 80th birthday celebrations.
Obasanjo stated in his brief speech that for Nigeria to progress, “more rebels” must step up and tell the truth.

Obasanjo stated in his brief speech that for Nigeria to progress, “more rebels” must step up and tell the truth.
He went on to say that anyone who wanted to live a life of honesty and integrity had to be a rebel.
“Looking at the title of the book, I’m not sure why someone would call himself a rebel,” Obasanjo added, “but it’s good.” The fact is that you must become a rebel if you want to live a life of honesty and integrity. There may be times when you will be asked to do something, but you will refuse because it is not right. And you’ll become a rebel if you say that. It’s possible that you’ll be declared a persona non grata.
“With the exception of Nigeria, there is no country that we can call our own.” Nigeria, in particular, requires more insurgents. Those who would look things in the eyes and say, “This is not right,” “This is something I will not participate in,” and “This is not good for Nigeria.”
